This week challenge is taken from Brenda Brathwaite's blog.
In summary, this challenge gives the easiest way to design a game. From the instructions given, it tells us to create a race game. Basically, player(s) begin at a point (start point), and should reach the end point (goal point).
Rad Racer
Because my group members only had a digital dimensional dices, and were provided a paper with a honeycomb pattern, we made a race board game. It is obvious that honeycomb looks like hexagon which has 6 sides. Therefore, my team decided to use only 6-dimensional dice.
After brainstorming for a while, we come up with an idea in which the player(s) started from the bottom of the paper, and should reach the top of the paper.
Game's Map
For the movement, we decided to use 3 of the upper hexagon's edges since the remaining edges leads to backward movement. By using 6-dimensional dice, the number's given to the player will move him/ her as follows:
Player's Movement
Moreover, every player's movement will leave its previous trace(s). Therefore, the player has a head and a tail which is similar with a snake game.
There are only two rules on this game, consists of:
1. If the player's head hits other player's head, the other player's head must be moved to the start point.
Player 2 hits Player 1's head, which leads Player 1's head back to the start point
2. If the player's head hits other player's tail, the player cannot move to its place. However, the player can leap other player's tail by having double movement (dice number: 4,5,6).
Player 1 leaps Player 2's tail by having dice number 6
3. If the player's head is on the left/ right edge of the game's map, half of its head is placed on its current position, while the other half is placed on the other edge. Therefore, the player's next movement will either go on the left edge, or the right edge of the game's map.
To make the game more challenging, there are several items spread randomly within the game's blocks. These items can give either advantages or disadvantages to the player which step on the item's block.
