Puzzle Bobble

Puzzle Bobble is a classic arcade game developed by Taito Corporation released in 1994. With a genre of puzzle game, the player should think carefully and make good decisions in order to finish the game.

Interactivity

This game provides a pointer for the player used to aims and fires bubbles upwards. The colour of the bubble to be fired is generated randomly. However, the game will provide the colour of the next bubble every time the player fires a bubble. Moreover, every fired bubble will travel in the straight line from the pointer and will end up in touching another bubble on the screen or the top of the screen. Otherwise, the fired bubble bounces off when it hits one of the side wall on the screen.

Concept

Every time the player start the game, there is a playing box contains a random sets of coloured balls which supposed to be bubbles. At the bottom of the screen, there is a pointer for the player to fire bubble. Similar with other arcade games, scoring system is also included in this game which leads experienced players to acquire score as high as possible. If the player hits two or more bubbles with the same colour, it will popped up and gives 10 points each. However, if the player popped these bubbles with another pair of bubbles hanging from popped bubbles (as known as dropped bubbles), the score given to the player will be bigger. One dropped bubble scores 20, two scores 40, three scores 80. Therefore, the score is doubled for every bubble dropped. Bonus points can also be awarded to the player if a round cleared in 5 seconds or less.

Settings

The player can also play two player mode which enables the player to compete with another person. In this mode, there is no round and the game finished when any bubble crossed to the bottom line on one of the player's arena. When a player removes bubbles on his/ her arena, these bubbles will be passed on the opponent's arena.

Goal

The objective of this game is to removes all bubbles on the arena without any bubble crossed the bottom line on the screen that leads to game over. Moreover, the player must finish all the rounds and try to get a score as high as possible.

Challenge

If the player remains idle when playing the game, the pointer will automatically fire bubble(s). After several shots from the player, the ceiling of the arena drops gradually along with all the bubbles within the arena. The closer the bubble(s) to the bottom line of the screen, the faster the music plays which intends to frighten the player. Furthermore, the difficulty of the game increases every time the player cleared the arena by creating a new pattern of bubbles.
