Metal Slug is a 'Run and Gun' game developed by Nazca Corporation. This game was first released on Neo-Geo MVS arcade platform.
Interactivity
There are several interactive controls for the player when playing the game. If the user press 'A' button, the character will shot a fire, or stab with a knife. Furthermore, the avatar used by the player will jump if the user press 'B' button. The character can also throw a grenade or cannon when riding a vehicle by pressing 'C' button.
Concept
Basically, the player(s) must shoot continuously from incoming enemies until the end of the level. There is also scoring system for this game which is commonly used on other game(s) in this platform. This game also has time remaining which prevent the player to stay idle.
Settings
When the player start the game, he/ she will be given three lives, ten bombs, and shotgun which has unlimited ammo. If the character died and has no more life, the player still could continue the game by spend his/ her credits. On the way to the end, the character may acquire several upgrades and 'Metal Slug' tank(s). Moreover, the player can meet some prisoner of wars which will give a random item. Every mission also has different environments such as forests, and canyons. There is also co-op system which let the player to invite his/ her friend to play the game as teammates.
Goal
The objective of this game is to finish all the missions given. Optionally, the player could also obtains score as high as possible.
Challenge
When the character almost reach the end of the level, he/ she will be given a boss which must be killed in order to complete the mission. There are also various kind of enemies which had its own difficulty. When the player proceed to the next mission, the difficulty of the game also increased.
Story
The evil General Morden and his rebel army has launched a coup d'état on the world's governments, and all attempts by the armies of the various countries to curtail his growing power fail. His most recent attack has given him access to a new form of all-terrain combat tank dubbed "Metal Slug". In a last effort to stop Morden, Cpt. Marco Rossi and Lt. Tarma Roving of the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force are sent to locate and eliminate his powerbase, as well as reclaim or destroy any Metal Slugs they can find so as to keep the technology out of Morden's hands. After battling their way through hoards of Morden's soldiers, the duo eventually face off against Morden himself, in a heavily armored helicopter. After defeating the helicopter and killing Morden, they destroy his base of operations. In an epilogue, one of Morden's men is shown throwing a paper airplane from a cliff face. As the credits roll, the plane flies across the various levels of the game, before disappearing into outer space. (Wikipedia, 2013)
